Erling Haaland extended his lead as the Premier League's top scorer with a double against Ipswich Town on Saturday, Oct. 17 in Mancehster City's 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town.
The goals were the highlights of Manchester City's first Premier League match at home since an independent commission found it guilty of more than 100 instances of breaking league financial rules.
But despite that situation swirling, the team on the field continues to win every league match it plays – in no small part because of Haaland's contributions.
His first goal of the day came on a ferocious header, rushing onto a ball from Mateo Kovačić to deliver a shot that flustered Ipswich Town goalkeeper Christian Walton.
The second saw Haaland put in a fair amount of work to create the scoring chance. Iliman Ndiaye's ball nearly skipped away from the forward after his first touch, but he muscled his way around a defender and used his first touch to put the shot past Walton.
The double takes the Norway international's tally to eight goals in the Premier League season, more than any other player. He also has added two goals in each of City's UEFA Champions League matches so far, taking his tally to a dozen goals in his last eight matches for Enzo Maresca's club.
After a stiff Champions League test against Paris Saint-Germain that saw City stumble in a 4-2 loss, Haaland's next chance to bag more goals will come in an Oct. 20 Champions League match with Greek squad AEK Athens before a return to league play Oct. 24 against Aston Villa.
At some point, the expectation is Haaland will also need a rest, even though the forward has so far shown no signs of letting up.
