Despite consecutive losses to London City Lionesses and Chelsea, Martin Ho’s side still sit fourth in the Women’s Super League table. That strong position stems from a brilliant September run of ten points from four matches, including a 7-0 rout at Crystal Palace and a 4-0 win over Aston Villa. At Stamford Bridge, Matilda Vinberg pulled Tottenham level right before the break, but three Chelsea goals in nine second-half minutes sealed a bruising defeat.
“It’s holding each other accountable,” Morris said after the final whistle. “We need to review the game individually, review the game as a team but after that, you put it away and then you put in the graft during the week. I want to see that reaction from me and all the girls.”
Conceding heavily in consecutive matches has the dressing room frustrated, and Morris pinpointed a lack of mental focus after restarts as the main reason behind the second half collapse.
“We started well in the first half and got it back to 1-1,” she explained. “It’s just how we came out in the second half wasn’t to our levels. We’re aware of that and it’s just not acceptable for us to concede that number of goals back-to-back. They make it 2-1, and it’s how you react after that. I mean, most goals are statistically conceded five minutes after a goal or a restart, so for us, it’s how mentally how do we reset and prepare for that because it’s not acceptable.”
“It’s not acceptable for us to concede that amount of goals.”
