Three Ferguslie players named in Scotland cricket squads

Cricket Scotland has named its Men’s National Training Squad and Men’s National Performance Training Squad for the 2026/27 winter block.

Player-coach Michael English has been selected for the National Training Squad, while Ibrahim Faisal and Uzair Ahmad have been named in the National Performance Training Squad.

Steve Snell, head of performance at Cricket Scotland, said: "Following an incredibly busy summer of international and domestic cricket, it’s an exciting time for us to announce our men’s training squads for the winter ahead.

"Our National Training Squad features a strong blend of established international experience and emerging talent, with several players earning recognition for their performances throughout the summer.

"These selections have been made with both our immediate and longer-term ambitions in mind.

"The ICC Men’s Global Qualifier in February is a significant priority, but we’re also looking ahead to the ICC World Cup Europe Qualifier in the summer of 2027 and ultimately the 2028 ICC Men’s World Cup."

Michael English ended the season with a standout 127 against Stenhousemuir, while Faisal and Ahmad have also contributed throughout the year.

Brian Donaghy, acting president of Ferguslie Cricket Club, said: "Everyone is delighted for the players on their well-deserved recognition, and it reflects well upon the club that three of our players have been selected for national squads.

"Michael English came back to the club this year and accumulated more than 600 runs in a season limited to an extent by his Scotland commitments.

"Ibrahim Faisal has had an outstanding summer with both bat and ball for us, and Uzair Ahmad is now delivering on the promise he showed when he played for the Scotland Under-19s in their World Cup three years ago.

"So it all bodes well for those players as individuals, and for Ferguslie Cricket Club, in 2027."
