‘Could Talk a Little Less,’ ‘He’s Become an A-Level Analyst’ — Jimmy Traina Makes Feelings Clear on Tom Brady’s Growth in Broadcast Booth

Tom Brady is starting to look more at home in the broadcast booth, and Jimmy Traina has noticed the difference.

The seven-time Super Bowl champion drew attention during FOX Sports’ coverage of the Detroit Lions’ 20-17 win over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, offering detailed analysis and questioning several controversial officiating calls alongside play-by-play announcer Kevin Burkhardt.

Now in the third year of his 10-year, $375 million deal with FOX, Brady is still learning the broadcasting side of the game. But Traina believes the former quarterback has made real progress.

Jimmy Traina Praises Tom Brady’s Growth as an Analyst

Speaking on the “Traina Thoughts” podcast, Traina said Brady looked more confident and energetic during the game.

“I thought that was Brady’s best game as an analyst,” Traina said. “He is so comfortable now. He was almost too comfortable. It’s almost like he’s talking a little too much. If I had one criticism, I would say he could talk a little less.”

One of the strongest parts of Brady’s commentary has been his ability to explain what quarterbacks are seeing on the field. After 23 seasons in the NFL, he, of course, has plenty of experience to draw from, and Traina believes Brady is now using that knowledge to offer insights other analysts might miss.

“He’s become an A-level analyst, and I’m not just saying this because he went after the refs,” Traina said. “What Brady gives you in terms of analyzing quarterbacks is next-level stuff. He’s giving you things no other analyst is giving you,” he added.

Traina also praised the chemistry between Brady and Burkhardt, saying the two have built a strong connection in the booth.

Tom Brady Openly Criticizes Controversial Calls During Lions-Packers Game

Brady also stood out on Sunday for his willingness to speak up about the officiating.

One of the biggest moments came when Packers defensive tackle Karl Brooks was penalized for roughing the passer after making contact with Lions quarterback Jared Goff following an 18-yard pass.

Brady immediately disagreed with the decision. “My goodness. What is that? There’s no way! Brooks on the tackle, he kind of makes a great play. It’s a bang-bang play; it rolls off his body. It’s a great throw by Goff. It’s definitely not roughing the passer,” Brady said.

His criticism was direct, but it focused on the specific play rather than suggesting the officials had lost control of the game. FOX also brought in officiating expert Dean Blandino to provide additional context during controversial moments.

Brady faced restrictions when he joined FOX in 2024 as a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders. The rules limited his ability to criticize referees, and going too far could lead to fines or suspension. However, during the Lions-Packers game, he offered detailed analysis of controversial calls without directly confronting the officials.
