Liverpool’s Bradley Barcola says Premier League is ‘less tactical’ than Ligue 1

Bradley Barcola (24) is still settling into life at Liverpool. The Frenchman made the move from Paris Saint-Germain to Liverpool over the summer in a deal worth up to €140m.

Since joining the Merseyside club, he has made eight appearances in all competitions. He netted his first goals for Liverpool in a 6-3 win over LASK. The hat-trick was the first of his professional career. Despite going close to netting in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Brentford, he has still yet to net in the Premier League.

Ahead of that game, Barcola spoke to TF1 show Téléfoot about his start to life in England. He immediately pointed out the differences between Ligue 1 and the Premier League.

Barcola explains why he has been getting cramp

“I am trying to adapt because it is very different to Paris Saint-Germain. The Premier League? It is different. I find that it is less tactical. In any case, we (PSG) had a very, very tactical manager (Luis Enrique), but I find that it is less tactical; there are fewer changes on the pitch. It is true that, with my former manager, I had to come inside, play down the wing, someone else would then take my position. Here, it is very different,” Barcola told Téléfoot.

It is the second time that Barcola has evoked the differences between the two leagues. Speaking to Sky Sports, he had noted how in Ligue 1 there are “a lot more strong (physical) players.” The difference, he noted, is in how much you have to run in the Premier League compared to in Ligue 1. That, the Olympique Lyonnais academy product revealed, explains why he has been cramping up at the end of matches this season.
