Aston Villa are playing host to Viking Stavanger FK, the Norwegian champions, in the midweek.

The UEFA Champions League is back on the schedule again for Aston Villa. This time they are welcoming the debutante in UEFA Champions League, the Norwegian champions, Viking Stavanger, at their home turf.

Villa are in their positive trend and confident form following their unbeaten run in all competitions. Their new signings begin to gel well and turn into the new team Emery wants. The likes of Johan Manzambi, Nicolas Jackson, Ibrahim Mbaye have started to play well comfortably.

Unfortunately, the injuries begin to haunt them just when they enter the period of congested fixtures. Ian Maatsen, Matteo Ruggeri, Modou Cisse, George Hemmings are still unavailable. Yet, there are more to come as Aaron Wan Bissaka and Manzambi could not finish their last game against Newcastle United. With Amadou Onana still sidelined for the long term injury and Taylor Harwood-Bellis being excluded in the Champions League squad, Emery would have to deal with this left back crisis carefully.

Rotating the squad is considerable but they can not underestimate Viking FK. Yet, their success in holding Bayern Munich in a 3-3 draw in the last outing should be something Villa should think about.

This clash here is the first encounter for both sides. Viking FK is also only the second Norwegian side to face off in Europe after Stromsgodset in the first round of UEFA Cup 1998/99.
