It seems as though there could have been a scenario where Cam Young left the PGA Tour to join LIV Golf way back in 2022.
In fact, it was revealed earlier this week that Young actually signed an agreement to join LIV Golf in July 2022, after recently filed court documents came to light.
The 29-year-old New Yorker had just missed out on winning the Open Championship at St Andrews after Cam Smith beat him to the claret jug by a solitary stroke.
Despite the fact that it wasn’t known at the time, Cam Young was all set to join the likes of Bryson DeChambeau on the fledgling LIV Golf league.
Several names have already announced they will not be involved with LIV 2.0
Considering the current state of LIV Golf as an entity, Young must be incredibly relieved that he eventually decided to remain with the PGA Tour.
Meanwhile, it has been suggested that DeChambeau could still stay with LIV Golf 2.0 as they move on into a new era.
Both players’ careers have taken completely different paths since 2022, but they did play an important role together for the United States at the Ryder Cup last year.
Back in 2025, DeChambeau was paired with Young during the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black.
And after they won their foursomes match on Saturday against European duo Matt Fitzpatrick and Ludvig Aberg, DeChambeau was asked what he made of Young’s performance.
“For our country, it was just pedal to the metal,“ the LIV Golf star said.
“Cam played unbelievable today. We struck it well, we executed when we needed to and we just put the pressure on them all day. They struggled to get momentum, and when we had our opportunities, we took advantage.
“Yeah, Cam just struck it unbelievable today with his irons. It was nice having a couple of two-footers to tap in, so it was sweet.
“We played really well and we putted it well. Again, just going to continue the momentum into this afternoon. Even though it was just one point, it’s a small victory but it’s a victory we needed to get the boys fired up.“
Bryson DeChambeau is clearly a very big fan of Cameron Young as both a person and a golfer.
There is a chance that Young may have joined DeChambeau’s Crushers team and gone on to enjoy plenty of success with LIV Golf.
However, it’s fair to argue that he made the right decision by staying on the PGA Tour. He has won some huge tournaments over the past 12 months, including The Players Championship and the Cadillac Championship.
A major win is surely just around the corner for Young, and had he joined LIV Golf four years ago, he may well not be the golfer he is today.
