J esper Daland could have a significant role to play in Cardiff City's January transfer plans as the Norwegian defender prepares for a major European audition against Aston Villa.
The 26-year-old is currently on loan at Viking FK, where his performances have reportedly attracted interest from three clubs across Europe ahead of the winter transfer window.
Schalke 04, Eintracht Frankfurt and French side Lille are all monitoring the centre-back, according to Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur, with scouts from the three clubs reportedly having watched him in action for the Norwegian side last month.
Daland will now have another opportunity to showcase his qualities on a major stage when Viking take on Aston Villa at Villa Park in the Champions League this evening.
The towering defender has featured in Viking's opening two Champions League matches against Bayern Munich and Stuttgart, having also played during their qualifying campaign against Croatian outfit GNK Dinamo.
With the January window approaching, the clash with Villa represents another potentially significant opportunity for Daland to impress prospective suitors, particularly if he can earn a starting spot against Premier League opposition.

According to Konur's report for fussball-news.de, interest in Daland remains at an early stage, with no concrete offers having been received at the time of publication.
Cardiff, meanwhile, could be in line for a significant financial boost should that interest translate into a permanent transfer.
The report claimed the Bluebirds were prepared to consider selling Daland for between €3m and €4.5m, with the upper end of that valuation equivalent to almost £3.8m.
That would represent a useful return for Cardiff, who signed the defender from Cercle Brugge in 2024 and have him under contract until the summer of 2028.
Daland's current loan arrangement with Viking runs until January, reflecting the different calendar of the Norwegian football season, potentially opening the door for discussions over a permanent move during the winter window.
The defender is understood to be surplus to requirements at Cardiff, where Brian Barry-Murphy already has Gabriel Osho, Will Fish, Krystian Bielik, Dylan Lawlor and Calum Chambers among his options in central defence.
With Daland seemingly unlikely to return to the first-team picture under Barry-Murphy, securing a permanent exit could make sense for all parties.
The Bluebirds are understood to have been left frustrated by the end to their summer window and are determined to put that right in the new year.
Cardiff will look to be active in the winter window and any substantial fee from a Daland sale would provide Cardiff with additional funds to reinvest in their squad.
