Martin Brundle reveals pit walk ban then immediately breaks golden rule at US Grand Prix

Martin Brundle broke his own golden rule when carrying out his pit walk at the United States Grand Prix. As usual, the Sky Sports pundit and reporter scampered across the grid amongst celebrities and American heroes in Texas. He had an interesting conversation with NASA astronaut Reid Wiseman, who offered his views on who he believes will emerge victorious at the Circuit of the Americas. However, Brundle still had some time to burn on air, albeit not very much.

He then went on to reveal that F1 bosses have banned him from starting an interview when there is less than 30 seconds left until the national anthem.

But shortly after he told Sky Sports' viewers about the strict broadcast law he has to follow, McLaren ace Lando Norris walked in his general direction, prompting him to make a split-second decision. It was then that he found himself breaking his golden rule.

After interviewing Wiseman, Brundle said: "There are a lot of people zooming through here. I'm not allowed to start interviewing people when there are 30 seconds to go. So I'll have to keep coming up with some words...."

Just as he was thinking on his feet, Norris strolled past his vicinity and made eye contact with Brundle. Ignoring the rule his producers set for him, the Sky Sports man shouted, "All good Lando?" prompting last year's world champion to give him a thumbs up, despite his 30-second warning coming to an end.

Earlier in the grid walk, Brundle had a characteristically awkward exchange with another person on the grid as he did his best to get to the front. While jostling through a large wall of people, he was heard saying: "It's not a competition mate, I'm going through" as he forced his way past.

Brundle began his gridwalk by speaking to Pierre Gasly and then moving onto Fernando Alonso, who did not speak to the reporter, as he was busy trying to sort out an issue with his car. The Sky man then came across Flavio Briatore and Alan Permane, before speaking to F1 Academy champion Alisha Palmowski.

Mario Andretti then had a conversation with Brundle while acting as an ambassador for Cadillac. Andretti spoke highly of the F1 debutants, saying: "Well, it's basically testing.

"Every race is a test session and you accumulate all the knowledge you can. Everything is going towards the future and next year's car. But every minute out there is valuable time.

"The drivers are doing a phenomenal job and giving back what is needed. So it's long term and, obviously we are not very patient, but realistically a lot to look forward to."
