Manchester United's hopes of poaching Fabian Hurzeler from Brighton might not be completely dead in the water. The highly-rated Seagulls manager has been mooted as a potential replacement for Michael Carrick, who is dangerously close to being sacked. He is expected to remain in charge for this weekend's game against Bournemouth, but another heavy defeat could spell the end of his time in charge of United.
Hurzeler is said to feature prominently on United's list of potential replacements, with the 33-year-old believed to have plenty of admirers in the boardroom. It's already been reported that he's not interested in leaving Brighton to join the Red Devils, but that could seemingly change in the not-too-distant future.
While he doesn't want to leave the Amex Stadium immediately, Hurzeler could be open to taking the "next step" in his career at the end of the season, according to Sky Sport Germany.

It's claimed that his "clear priority" is to finish the campaign with Brighton and secure Champions League qualification for the first time in the club's history.
Despite being under contract until 2029, the report adds that Hurzeler could be willing to jump ship next summer, with "top-level enquiries" already being made.
It suggests that if United want him in charge, they would either have to keep Carrick until the end of the season or appoint an interim until Hurzeler becomes available.
Other candidates are believed to be under consideration, with United's director of football Jason Wilcox reportedly favouring a move for Eddie Howe.
The ex-Newcastle head coach is still available following his resignation before the start of the season, meaning United would be able to appoint him without needing to pay compensation.
However, it's claimed that the club's head of recruitment Christopher Vivell would prefer to hand the job to former Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann.
Antonio Conte's representatives are said to have reached out to United to express his interest in taking charge, but the Italian isn't expected to be among the leading candidates.
Meanwhile, the likes of Mauricio Pochettino and Kieran McKenna are believed to be outside contenders, having been involved in previous processes.
