The Indianapolis Colts' fire sale may not be over after reports that teams are interested in acquiring quarterback Daniel Jones.
At 2-6, the Colts have one of the worst records in football, prompting them to trade away star players Quinton Nelson and DeForest Buckner to the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers, respectively, in recent days, as they attempt to build draft capital ahead of the 2027 NFL Draft.
With Indianapolis not currently in possession of a first-round pick due to the huge trade they made for cornerback Sauce Gardner last season, there are other players on the Colts roster who could be on the move. Running back Jonathan Taylor has drawn interest, as has wide receiver Josh Downs.
And according to ESPN and NFL Network, Colts quarterback Jones could also be moved before Tuesday's trade deadline (Nov. 10). Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport report the Colts have reportedly received calls from multiple teams interested in landing Jones ahead of Indianapolis' game on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.
The Colts are said to be open to listening to any offer for Jones, who signed a two-year, $88 million extension with Indianapolis back in March.
The Baltimore Ravens reportedly expressed interest in Jones but ultimately traded for Jacoby Brissett from the Arizona Cardinals. Another team mentioned as a potential landing spot for Jones is Minnesota, where he spent part of the 2024 season after his release by the New York Giants.
Despite the Vikings sitting at 6-1, their offense has been disappointing, with Kyler Murray having underwhelmed as their starter. Murray has also dealt with injuries and is sidelined for Minnesota's Monday night game against the Buffalo Bills, with Carson Wentz set to start in his place.
Finances also factor into the Colts' decision-making regarding Jones' future. He has an injury guarantee worth $10.51 million for the 2027 season, a guarantee which becomes fully guaranteed if he is on the Colts roster come March 15.
While the Indianapolis Colts are not yet fully eliminated from playoff contention, the notion of them making a run to a postseason berth from the position they find themselves in is fanciful.
Should the Colts keep hold of Jones, they may end up benching him down the stretch to avoid exposing him to injury, with the injury guarantee a factor.
Earlier this week, Colts head coach Shane Steichen said he would stick with Jones as Indianapolis' starter, telling reporters he gave the team the best chance to win after their loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
"Evaluating the tape, looking back at it, some things he could do better, some things that we need to help him with moving forward," Steichen said.
"But I do feel that Daniel gives the best chance to win right now."
