The Isthmian League leg of Football in Berkshire’s ‘story so far’ of the 2026/27 league season includes Ascot United, Binfield and Windsor & Eton
Three Berkshire sides feature in the Isthmian League South Central Division One this season with newly promoted Windsor & Eton joining Ascot United and Binfield.
It’s familiar surroundings for the Royalists who moved between Division Two and the Premier Division between 1981 and 2006 before a switch to the Southern League and mid-season resignaton in 2011.
The reformed side has worked its way up from the Thames Valley Premier League since 2023 while Binfield joined the Step 4 division in 2021, Ascot following suit in 2023 – both after FA Vase Final appearances at Wembley.
There was relief at Binfield at the weekend as the Moles finally dug up a league win in the South Central victory at the 11th attempt. They got off the mark in style despite feeling that familiar sinking feeling early in the game when visitors Littlehampton Town took a first half lead through Harry Heath. Henry Mott levelled before the break and completed his hat-trick in the second period, with Quincy Patterson, Jake Pickett and Brandon Campbell all also notching as Ross Weatherstone’s men ran amok in front of an encouraging crowd of 196 spectators.
Binfield make the trip to former Ascot boss Jamie Tompkins Hayes & Yeading United on Saturday.
Joining Binfield in the drop zone as we pass the one-quarter mark of the season is Ascot United, who were also involved in a one-sided result at the weekend. Jack Arnold tapped hosts Ashford Town ahead after barely 90 seconds of play, Arnold going on to complete a hat-trick in a 7-0 victory with former Maidenhead United Academy player Ben Mulley also notching. The Yellas have won just twice in the league this season and have conceded a divisional worst 34 goals in picking up eight points, leaving them now just four points ahead of the Moles who still occupy last place in the table.
Ascot United’s next game is at home to Bognor Regis Town on Saturday.
The other Berkshire side in the lower reaches of the South Central table are new boys Windsor & Eton, who went down by the only goal of the game at Hartley Wintney on Saturday afternoon with Calvin Camara notching the decisive effort in the first half. The Royalists rallied and were denied by Row ‘keeper Liam Beach in the final stages. Prior to this defeat however Windsor had only lost once in their previous six matches and although they only have four more points than Ascot at this stage they do have games in hand thanks to a run in the FA Cup which evoked memories of their glory days of the 80’s. Given the feel-good factor of promotion, you’d expect that all at Stag Meadow will be looking upwards still rather than gazing at the bottom reaches.
Windsor & Eton next face Cobham away on Tuesday night.
