Tottenham Women midfielder Drew Spence writes herself into WSL history as she equals ‘this’ record following the North London derby

Tottenham Hotspur Women captain Drew Spence wrote her name into the history books on Saturday afternoon by making her 216th Women’s Super League appearance against Arsenal. The veteran midfielder now shares the all-time record with retired former Chelsea defender Millie Bright.

Tottenham’s Women skipper Drew Spence sits one game away from holding the all-time Women’s Super League appearance record outright. By starting Saturday’s derby against Arsenal in N17, she reached 216 top-flight appearances. That milestone puts her level with former Chelsea defender Millie Bright at the top of the charts. One more outing will make Spence the sole record holder.

The top five leaderboard features some of the biggest names in the history of the women’s game in England. Behind Spence and Bright on 216 games, forward Nikita Parris sits third with 213 appearances. Midfielder Jordan Nobbs holds fourth spot on 210 games, while former Spurs striker Bethany England sits fifth on 207. Matching Bright’s mark in N17 made the day extra special.

Since arriving in north London in July 2021, the number 24 has become the heartbeat of the Tottenham midfield. Spence has played 79 of her 216 top-flight matches in Lilywhite, scoring eight league goals along the way. Head coach Martin Ho relies on her experience to guide the squad this season. Even in Saturday’s narrow 2-1 loss to Arsenal, she battled hard in front of the home crowd.

Double Milestone Looms For Tottenham Skipper

Alongside chasing the outright league record, Spence is also closing in on a big landmark for Tottenham. The midfielder needs just three more appearances across all competitions to reach 100 games for the club. Hitting a century of matches in North London will reward five years of strong service at Hotspur Way. Few players have kept up such high fitness standards across so many seasons.

Her longevity at the top level sets a clear example for the young talents at Enfield. Week after week, Spence continues to cover ground, win tackles, and drive the team forward from midfield. She will now look to claim the outright league appearance record for Tottenham in the next top flight game. Breaking that mark while nearing 100 club games will cement her status as a modern icon.
