Barcelona are working closely with the authorities after requesting a FIFA extension to meet a new mandatory regulation.

The administrative landscape of elite European football is constantly shifting, introducing new regulatory challenges that test the operational agility of even the most prestigious clubs.

As major sporting institutions prepare for upcoming international tournaments and global competitions, they must align their internal structures with evolving mandates designed to foster inclusivity and representation across all levels of the game.

Meeting these stringent requirements often demands careful coordination, extensive recruitment searches, and proactive communication with governing bodies to ensure full compliance before high-stakes deadlines arrive, as per Diario Sport.

FC Barcelona is formally requesting a special extension from FIFA to secure additional time for a specific compliance requirement regarding its coaching staff under new regulatory mandates.

Specifically, the Catalan club is asking for more margin to incorporate a female coach into the primary staff of Pere Romeu’s team to satisfy rules requiring participating clubs in FIFA competitions to feature a woman as either a principal or assistant coach on the bench.

While the blaugrana outfit features accomplished women in departments such as sports science, medical care, and nutrition, the current technical hierarchy lacks a female trainer in the designated coaching roles outlined by the governing body’s updated directives.

The regulation in question was introduced earlier this year as part of a broader global strategy to accelerate the presence of women in leadership positions within professional soccer.

FIFA’s framework mandates that teams competing in its official tournaments ensure at least one female member occupies a technical coaching position, alongside representation in medical and official bench staff.

Consequently, club officials are working diligently to resolve the situation ahead of the FIFA Champions Cup scheduled for January.

By engaging transparently with international authorities and seeking the necessary adjustment period, Barcelona aims to balance its competitive ambitions with the wider institutional commitment to advancing gender equity and leadership diversity across the sport.
