Llangollen youth footballers' field vandalised, club says

CPD Llangollen YFC shared concerns about damage caused to Willow Street Field, located behind the town’s youth club, warning that significant work may be needed to make the pitch safe to use again.

The field is owned by Denbighshire County Council and is used by members of the public, including the football club and other users of the Youth Centre.

The youth club allows CPD Llangollen YFC to use the space for training sessions and matches.

In a statement, the club said: “We are saddened and disappointed to see that Willow Street Field, behind the youth club, has been vandalised.

“It is not acceptable for someone to damage it and prevent others from being able to enjoy and use it.”

The club confirmed it is in discussions with Denbighshire Youth Service about the damage and what steps can be taken to restore the pitch.

Coaches are also exploring ways they can help with the repairs, although the club warned that the work could prove difficult as winter approaches.

The statement continued: “It’s likely that hours of hard work will be needed to repair the damage which is challenging as we head into the winter months.

“It’s heartbreaking that the actions of a few can have such an impact on so many, especially our young players who simply want somewhere safe to play football and enjoy being part of a team.”

The club has appealed for anyone with information about those responsible to contact Denbighshire County Council or the Youth Club.

It added: “Please remember that these spaces are there for everyone to enjoy, and we all have a responsibility to respect and look after them.”

CPD Llangollen YFC thanked its coaches, the Youth Club, Denbighshire Youth Service and everyone involved in maintaining local facilities.

The club hopes the damage can be repaired soon so young players can continue using the field for football.
