Millions of football fans are disappointed after DStv and SuperSport were locked out of livestreaming the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony forcing viewers to seek alternative ways to watch the prestigious football awards.

The absence of the ceremony from the two popular broadcasters has left fans looking towards online streaming services and digital platforms to follow the unveiling of the world's best footballers.

The Ballon d’Or is among football’s most prestigious individual awards, attracting global attention as players, clubs and supporters wait to discover who will be crowned the best performer of the year.

Where to Watch the Ballon d’Or Ceremony Live

With DStv and SuperSport not carrying the event live, football fans have been directed towards alternative online platforms, including DAZN and the official L’Équipe YouTube channel, subject to regional availability.

DAZN is a key option for viewers seeking online coverage. Fans can visit the platform or its app to check the availability of the ceremony’s livestream. Where free access is offered, viewers may be required to register for an account without paying a subscription fee.

L’Équipe YouTube channel is another platform worth checking for live coverage. However, viewers should confirm whether an official livestream is available in their country.

Other digital platforms may provide live updates, rankings and announcements for fans unable to access the full broadcast.

Fans Forced to Turn to Digital Platforms

The absence of the ceremony from DStv and SuperSport is likely to inconvenience viewers who traditionally rely on television broadcasters for major international sporting events.

Football supporters in Kenya and other countries where the two services have a significant audience may have to rely on internet-based platforms to follow the ceremony as the rankings and winners are announced.

The shift also highlights the growing importance of digital streaming in sports broadcasting, as exclusive rights to major events can determine where audiences are able to watch them.

Fans are advised to use official streaming channels and check regional restrictions before the ceremony begins to avoid unreliable links and unauthorised broadcasts.

As anticipation builds around the 2026 Ballon d’Or, supporters will be watching closely to see which player emerges as the year's outstanding footballer.
