Rooney: Man Utd Squad Must Shoulder Blame, Not Carrick
Rooney

Former Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has launched a scathing critique of the current squad, insisting the players must take full responsibility for their recent slump rather than leaving manager Michael Carrick to face the heat alone.

Rooney’s remarks come after another dispiriting performance against Bournemouth, which left travelling supporters visibly furious at full-time.

Speaking out on the ongoing saga at Old Trafford, the club’s all-time leading goalscorer questioned the squad’s work rate, intensity, and passion.

“I don’t think the players have a leg to stand on. I looked at the fans after the Bournemouth game and you can see their faces as the players walked around the pitch,” Rooney stated.

“In games, they’re not getting to the ball quickly enough, and it’s so frustrating. I’d love to go into that dressing room and sit them down and ask what the f** are you doing? What type of performances do you think these are?”*

Rooney further suggested that a lack of fight across the team is dragging down any individuals attempting to spark a turnaround.

“The players look like they have no emotions, like they don’t care,” he added. “There might be some who do care, but they’re getting dragged down.”
