'It was tough to watch': Heartbroken Michael Carrick apologises to United fans after 'unacceptable' Como loss

Manchester United take on Bournemouth today looking to end a seven-game run of games without a victory.

Michael Carrick is on thin ice after a 4-1 defeat by Como in the Champions League league phase, which sees the Red Devils 20th in the table on their return to Europe’s premier competition.

It followed their 1-1 draw at Leeds United, but they have not won a match since the end of August, with their run without a win beginning with the 1-0 defeat by Manchester City in a controversial Manchester derby loss.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, are fresh off the back of stunning AC Milan, managed by former United boss and Carrick’s predecessor Ruben Amorim, 3-0 at the Vitality Stadium.

There was a dubious nature of Milan’s red card on the Dorset coast with Mike Maignan sent off, but the Cherries scored two penalties thanks to Justin Kluivert and Marcus Tavernier before Yacine Adli completed the rout with a sumptuous free-kick against his former club.

Marco Rose’s men claimed their first victory of the league campaign under their new boss with a 2-0 triumph over Sunderland, who also went down to ten men after Kevin Danso’s 17th-minute early bath.

Tavernier and Evanlison were on target to hand them a first three-point haul of the season.
