As expected, the Edmonton Oilers activated centerman Jason Dickinson off of injured reserve ahead of Wednesday’s clash against the rival Calgary Flames. Dickinson missed Edmonton’s last six games after sustaining a groin injury in the Oilers’ practice on October 14th. He returned to regular practices on Tuesday and should get a chance to ease into the lineup in Wednesday’s home matchup, before Edmonton embarks on a three-game road trip.
Dickinson faced a nagging ankle injury to start the season. Between that injury and his recent groin injury, the 31 year old has been limited to just three games this season. He has one assist, three shot blocks, and three hits in those appearances. His return should bump rookie Owen Michaels to the fourth-line center role, while Colton Dach likely shifts to the press box.
The Oilers will bring slightly more depth into an important stretch of matchups. They’ll look to maintain a hot streak – and better support superstars Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl – after posting a 7-2-1 record across their last 10 games.
Other notes from around the league:
- The Columbus Blue Jackets activated and assigned defenseman Caleb MacDonald. The 23 year old sustained a lower-body injury during training camp and began the year on Columbus’ non-roster injured reserve. He played through his first professional season last year – marked by 12 points, 74 penalty minutes, and a minus-six in 58 games with the AHL’s Cleveland Monsters. MacDonald played two seasons in college before that, one with the University of Alaska-Fairbanks and one at the University of North Dakota. He was a patented bruiser in both stops, racking up 80 penalty minutes in 66 collegiate games. At 6-foot-4, 225-pounds, MacDonald should return to a physical role in Cleveland’s lineup.
- Boston Bruins owner and governor Jeremy Jacobs has announced that his son, Charlie Jacobs, will take over his role as the Bruins’ governor effective immediately. Charlie has long served as the face of Bruins’ ownership and alternate governor. He also serves as founder and chairman of the Boston Bruins Foundation, which has raised more than $80MM for children, families, first responders, and military personnel since 2003. He has also played an instrumental role in the development of the New England Sports Network (NESN).
