Gor Mahia vs Bandari reverts to afternoon kick-off after Sports Kenya stadium restrictions
Gor Mahia

Gor Mahia’s SportPesa League Round 3 fixture against Bandari FC has had its kick-off time reverted to the original schedule following Sports Kenya’s decision not to approve the use of Nyayo National Stadium at night.

K’Ogalo were initially set to host the coastal outfit under the stadium floodlights on Saturday evening, with kick-off scheduled for 7pmEAT.

However, the club has now reverted to the original time, with the match set to get underway at 4:15pm at the same venue.

Gor Mahia announced the change on their social media platforms on Friday afternoon, explaining that they were unable to secure approval for the night fixture after Sports Kenya cited a rule prohibiting the use of a facility for a match within less than 24 hours of another game.

Why has Gor Mahia vs Bandari kick-off time been reverted to 4:15pm?

“Please note that tomorrow’s SportPesa League match against Bandari will now kick off at 4:15 PM, not 7 PM as earlier communicated,” part of the club’s statement read.

“We sincerely apologise for this change and for any inconvenience it may cause. The adjustment follows Sports Kenya’s (Stadia Management) decision not to approve the use of the facility at night, citing a rule that prohibits match-day usage within less than 24 hours between two matches. We appreciate your understanding.”

Earlier this week, on Tuesday, K’Ogalo had announced that the encounter would be played under the lights following a social media poll in which fans voted for their preferred kick-off time.

In an official communication shared on their social media handles, Gor Mahia revealed that 7,767 supporters voted in favour of a 7pm kick-off, compared to 998 who preferred the alternative.

The reigning SportPesa League champions had been looking forward to hosting their second home match under the floodlights this season, having already done so in their opener at the same venue, where they hosted Murang’a SEAL on Tuesday, October 13.

In that encounter, they launched their title defence in emphatic fashion with a 4-0 victory, which they followed up with a hard-fought 1-0 away win over APS Bomet to move to the top of the table on six points.

On Saturday, they will be looking to maintain their perfect winning record, remaining the only side in the league to have won all their matches so far, as they aim to extend their stay at the summit.
