Amad declared "I have no words" and exclaimed "f***ing disgrace" following Manchester United's defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. Those remarks formed the caption of a post shared on his Snapchat account, which is verified as a Snap Star, indicated by the star symbol beside the profile name. Amad, 24, began the fixture in Madrid on the bench and entered the action during the second period, replacing Marcus Rashford. Less than 10 minutes later, United saw Leny Yoro dismissed. They were trailing 1-0 at that point, before Ademola Lookman extended Atletico's lead to wrap up a 2-0 victory.
Amad's stinging comments were made after Lisandro Martinez expressed his anger in a post-match interview, saying: "I have to control myself a lot. But sometimes it's a reflection of how our club is at the moment, you know?
"We (had) a fantastic season last season, and now we expect more from the top, from above, you know, to bring more players to compete, because many, many teams bring many players in as well.
"Today also, Atletico have an amazing team, and they deserved to win today. I expected more, honestly. I expected more."
Martinez subsequently turned his attention to director of football Jason Wilcox.
"I expected more from our technical director," he said of Wilcox. "I have to be honest, you know? And also, as players, we have to do more, but it's also important when you make a strong squad to be ready for these kinds of nights."
The player stated: "In general. I think last season we did everything; we created a base to build an amazing team. But this is something to be honest and to prove something, you know?".
"Yeah, it's annoying, disappointing, to come here and not see my team trying to get an amazing result here. It's disappointing."
When questioned about Michael Carrick, Martinez added: "He does his best. But every season is different. You cannot say what you did last season.
"The teams know how you play, the teams know every detail, you know? And if you don't change, next season is a big problem. You cannot keep changing managers. What about other areas? I can't say more."
When asked during his post-match press conference about Martinez's comments, Carrick responded: "I need to find out a bit more about it before I can say if and what is going to be done. I really can't comment any further because I haven't seen it."
