Rabat – Morocco’s national futsal team will face Angola on Wednesday, October 21, in the final of the 2026 Africa Futsal Cup of Nations (AFCON), with the match scheduled to kick off at 8 p.m. at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.
The Atlas Lions secured their place in the final after defeating Egypt 6-0 in the semifinals on Monday, October 19, extending their impressive unbeaten run in the competition.
Angola, meanwhile, booked their ticket to the final after a dramatic 3-2 victory over Algeria, overturning a two-goal deficit to eliminate the North African side.
The final will bring together two teams that have enjoyed successful campaigns, with Morocco seeking to defend their continental crown and Angola hoping to challenge the hosts.
Under head coach Hicham Dguig, Morocco have delivered an impressive performance throughout the tournament, winning all four matches without conceding a single goal.
The Atlas Lions began their campaign with a convincing 4-0 victory over Algeria before defeating Zambia 7-0 in their second group-stage match.
Morocco then continued their winning streak with another dominant performance against Libya, securing a 6-0 victory to finish at the top of Group A with nine points.
The three victories saw Morocco score 17 goals without conceding, confirming their strong attacking and defensive performances ahead of the knockout stage.
In Monday’s semifinal against Egypt, the Atlas Lions maintained their momentum with another 6-0 victory.
Bilal Bakkali opened the scoring in the ninth minute before Ismail Amazal doubled Morocco’s advantage just one minute later.
Amazal scored again in the 15th minute to give Morocco a comfortable 3-0 lead before halftime.
After the break, Bakkali added his second goal in the 22nd minute, while Soufian Charraoui scored twice in the closing stages to complete the victory.
The result brought Morocco’s tournament tally to 23 goals scored and none conceded across four matches.
Angola have also enjoyed a successful campaign, finishing first in Group B after winning all three group-stage matches.
The Angolan team opened the tournament with a victory over Mozambique before defeating Tanzania 6-0 in their second match.
Joao Cambangula played a key role in the victory over Tanzania, scoring four goals to help his team secure an early place in the semifinals.
Angola then faced Egypt in their final group-stage match, producing an impressive comeback to secure a 4-2 victory.
Egypt initially took a 2-0 lead, but Angola fought back after Egyptian goalkeeper Ahmed ElMorsi received a red card in the first half.
Cambangula scored twice, while Magno Felipe Gomes and Anderson Fortes also found the net to complete the comeback.
The victory allowed Angola to finish first in Group B with nine points and advance to the semifinals against Algeria.
In Monday’s semifinal, Angola once again demonstrated their ability to recover from difficult situations.
Algeria took a 2-0 lead in the first half, with Mathieu Hammad opening the scoring in the ninth minute before Ait Hamadouche doubled the advantage in the 19th minute.
However, Angola responded strongly after halftime, with Aderito Santos reducing the deficit in the 29th minute.
Hornes Do Santo equalized in the 35th minute before Francisco Gabriel Chico scored the winning goal three minutes later.
The 3-2 victory secured Angola’s place in the final and ended Algeria’s historic campaign in their first appearance at the continental tournament.
Wednesday’s final represents another opportunity for Morocco to strengthen their position at the top of African futsal.
The Atlas Lions have won the continental championship three consecutive times, lifting the trophy in 2016, 2020, and 2024.
Another victory would give Morocco their fourth consecutive African title and extend their dominance of the competition.
However, Angola will enter the match with confidence after winning all four of their matches, including two impressive comeback victories against Egypt and Algeria.
The final will also offer Morocco the opportunity to celebrate another continental achievement on home soil, with the national team looking to complete the tournament without defeat.
Before the final, Egypt and Algeria will meet in the third-place playoff at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
Morocco and Angola will then face each other at 8 p.m. in Rabat to determine the 2026 African futsal champions.
