Alex Mwakideu has expressed amazement at the development of Raila Odinga International Stadium, describing it as a milestone he never expected to witness in Kenya.
In a post shared on Thursday, October 29, 2026, the media personality reflected on the country’s development, saying the stadium’s scale had challenged his expectations.
“Nilikuja kuamini sasa kama itafika hapa naweza hivi Kenya. Sijaona… sijawahi kuona,” Mwakideu said, explaining that he had expected Kenya to continue relying on existing stadiums.
He was particularly impressed by the stadium’s appearance at night, pointing to its lighting and 60,000-seat capacity.
“Kwanza ikiwashwa mataa usiku inakaa vizuri… 60,000 capacity. Oh, my God,” he said.
Mwakideu said stadium construction was an example of development he had not seen at this scale during his lifetime.
“Ni kitu ambayo nimekuwa nikiiona ikifanyika tangu nilivyozaliwa huku Kenya, sijawahi kuona hivi,” he said, adding that he did not think another region in the country had reached the same level.
He noted that public conversations were now turning to stadium construction.
“We are speaking about stadiums now… we are talking about constructions of a stadium,” he said.
The conversation then turned to the entertainment expected around the stadium’s opening. Mwakideu referred to claims that Harry Kane, Bayern Munich and Ajax Amsterdam would be involved, while discussing whether a match itself counted as entertainment.
He compared football to a music performance, asking whether bringing an artiste to perform for music fans would be considered entertainment.
“If I tell you that this is like bringing in music artiste to perform music for music fans, would you not say that is entertainment?” he asked.
Another speaker argued that a football match offered only “90 minutes” of entertainment, prompting Mwakideu to challenge the distinction.
His comments combined excitement about the stadium’s construction with a broader discussion about football’s place in live entertainment. Mwakideu’s reaction highlighted the significance he attached to the facility and the prospect of major sporting events being hosted in Kenya. He urged viewers to look closely at the stadium and consider Kenya’s progress today.
