Rabat – Morocco’s U-17 women’s national team suffered a heavy 6-0 defeat to North Korea on Wednesday, October 28, ending their campaign in the Round of 16 of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The match took place at Pitch 2 of the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Salé, where the Asian side dominated proceedings to secure a place in the quarterfinals.
North Korea established its superiority early in the game, scoring four goals before halftime to leave Morocco with a difficult task after the break.
The defending champions maintained their attacking pressure in the second half, adding two more goals to complete a convincing victory and eliminate the host nation from the competition.
North Korea entered the knockout stage as one of the tournament’s strongest teams after finishing top of Group B with nine points.
The defending champions carried that momentum into Wednesday’s encounter, demonstrating their attacking quality against a Moroccan side that struggled to contain their opponents.
The result sends North Korea into the quarterfinals as they continue their pursuit of another U-17 Women’s World Cup title.
Morocco advanced to the Round of 16 as one of the best third-placed teams after competing in Group A.
The Atlas Lionesses secured their place in the knockout stage following a challenging group campaign, including victories over New Zealand and Argentina.
Their qualification offered the young Moroccan players an opportunity to continue their historic run in front of home supporters.
However, the defeat to North Korea brings their participation in the tournament to an end, despite their promising performances in the group stage.
The Moroccan team will now look to build on the experience gained from competing against some of the world’s leading youth teams as they continue their development on the international stage.
