Kaizer Chiefs' CAF Confederation Cup journey came to a painful end on Friday night after the South African giants were beaten 3-2 on penalties by Zambian outfit Red Arrows following a 1-1 aggregate draw.
Amakhosi headed into the second-leg encounter needing to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg in Zambia and managed to level the tie by securing a 1-0 victory in regulation time at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
The Soweto giants fought hard to erase the first-leg disadvantage, producing an improved display in front of their supporters. However, despite drawing level on aggregate, they were unable to find the decisive goal that would have secured progression to the next round.
With the aggregate score locked at 1-1 after 90 minutes, the tie was decided via a penalty shootout. Red Arrows held their nerve from 12 yards, converting enough of their spot-kicks to claim a 3-2 victory and book their place in the next stage of the competition.
