Cristiano Ronaldo endured a difficult night for Al-Nassr during a 1-0 win over Neom in the Saudi Pro League, missing a penalty kick and failing to convert another opportunity, En Cancha reported. Despite the missed chances from the Portuguese forward, a decisive strike from Joao Felix secured the three points for the hosts at Al Awwal Park.
The sequence of missed opportunities began deep into first-half stoppage time. At the 45+6-minute mark, Ronaldo stepped up to take a penalty kick with the chance to break the deadlock.
The frustration continued immediately after the break. In the 47th minute, teammate Angelo Gabriel delivered a free kick toward the back post. Sadio Mané redirected the ball across the face of the goal with a header, leaving Ronaldo alone in front of an empty net. Attempting to finish with a backheel touch using his left foot, the forward misplayed the shot, sending the ball well wide of the post as described in match transmissions.
Despite the missed chances, Al-Nassr maintained their defensive stability and secured the narrow victory. Joao Felix provided the game’s only goal with what broadcasters termed a well-executed strike, sealing the 1-0 result.
With the three points secured against Neom, Al-Nassr climbed to 22 points, holding third place in the Saudi Pro League standings. The team sits three points behind league leaders Al-Qadsiah, who hold 25 points at the summit of the table.
The match followed a turbulent week for the forward. El Tiempo reported that the Portuguese Football Federation suspended Ronaldo for 30 days and issued a fine equivalent to 255 euros following his departure from the national team camp due to differences with manager Jorge Jesus. The suspension was applied retroactively from October 1, allowing him to remain available for upcoming international fixtures in November.
Concurrently, former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag addressed his past relationship with the player in an interview with The Athletic published earlier in the week. The Dutch coach remarked that while he respects Ronaldo’s standing in the sport, tactical decisions during his tenure required prioritizing players who maintained specific physical preparation standards during possession and defensive phases.
