Como Humiliate Manchester United 4-1 as Carrick Faces Fresh Pressure

Manchester United suffered a humiliating 4-1 defeat against Como in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, after the Italian side produced an outstanding performance at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia.

Como made a perfect start when Nico Paz opened the scoring in the second minute. The early goal put Manchester United under immediate pressure and gave the home side the confidence to attack with greater freedom. United attempted to respond, but they struggled to create clear opportunities and control the game. Their defensive problems were particularly noticeable as Como continued to find spaces and move the ball forward with confidence.

The visitors made changes at half-time in an attempt to improve their performance. However, the adjustments did little to stop Como from extending their advantage. Anastasios Douvikas scored in the 49th minute after receiving a pass from Paz, making it 2-0. Eight minutes later, Paz found the net again to complete his brace and put Como firmly in control of the contest.

United's situation became even worse in the 76th minute when Jacobo Ramón scored Como's fourth goal. The goal reflected the Italian side's superiority and left the visitors facing an almost impossible task. Joshua Zirkzee scored a consolation goal for Manchester United in stoppage time, but it came too late to change the result. Como held on to secure a convincing 4-1 victory. The result also highlighted the growing concerns surrounding Manchester United's performances. The team struggled in defence, lacked consistency in midfield and failed to make enough of their attacking opportunities.

Carrick now faces difficult questions about how to restore confidence and improve results. United will need to respond quickly as they prepare for their next fixtures, starting with Bournemouth in the Premier League. Meanwhile, Como manager Cesc Fàbregas will be delighted with his team's performance. His players showed organisation, attacking quality and confidence throughout the match. The victory represents a significant moment for Como, who continue to attract attention under Fàbregas. For Manchester United, however, the heavy defeat serves as a warning that major improvements are needed if they hope to recover from their disappointing run and compete successfully in Europe.
