Kylian Mbappe says his 100th goal for Real Madrid matters little next to the team’s win over Barcelona.
Mbappe scored twice as Real Madrid beat Barcelona 2-1 at Camp Nou in La Liga on Sunday, October 25. The two goals took the French forward to 100 for the club in all competitions since he joined in 2024. Raphinha scored Barcelona’s goal, which came between Mbappe’s two.
Speaking to Real Madrid TV, Mbappe said he was happy and likes to score goals to help the team. But he said the milestone was “just a detail.” He said the real star of the match was the team and the group, because they knew they had to play a big game together.
Mbappe, 27, said it was a great game, but it only counts as three points. He said Madrid need many more points to win La Liga.
The win moves Madrid closer to the top. Third-placed Madrid are now three points behind leaders and reigning champions Barcelona. Barcelona were trying to set a record for the most wins in a row at the start of a Spanish top-flight season.
Madrid, coached by Jose Mourinho, have now won five matches in a row and look to be in strong form. Mbappe told reporters that five games means little. He said the team wants to win every game.
He also warned that the season is not decided. He said Madrid must show the same intensity next week against Racing Santander. Official fixtures list that match for Sunday, November 1.
