Arthur Zwane Breaks Silence on Bafana Bafana Coaching Rumours

AmaZulu Coach Arthur Zwane Breaks Silence on Bafana Bafana Speculation

AmaZulu head coach Arthur Zwane has addressed speculation linking him with a possible appointment to the Bafana Bafana technical team under Pitso Mosimane, insisting that he remains committed to his current role at the Durban-based club.

Reports circulating earlier this week suggested that AmaZulu had begun exploring potential replacements in case Zwane decided to leave. Orlando Pirates assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi was reportedly among the candidates being considered to take over should a vacancy arise.

However, Zwane's latest comments suggest that departing from AmaZulu would be a difficult decision, considering the strong relationships he has developed with the club's management, players and supporters.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the 2026 Carling Knockout last-16 draw, the experienced coach reflected on his transition from Kaizer Chiefs to AmaZulu after spending 24 years with the Soweto giants.

Zwane explained that loyalty influenced his decision to join Usuthu. When club president Sandile Zungu approached him with the opportunity, he insisted that Kaizer Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung should first be informed before he accepted the offer.

He was also attracted by Zungu's vision for AmaZulu and believed he could contribute meaningfully towards achieving the club's long-term ambitions.

Although his early days at the Durban outfit presented several challenges, Zwane believes the team has steadily improved and developed greater confidence. He also acknowledged the support he has received from the club's leadership, board, chief executive officer and supporters, describing their backing as exceptional.

Addressing the possibility of working alongside Mosimane in the national team's technical setup, Zwane indicated that such an opportunity would require serious consideration. Nevertheless, he stressed that his coaching journey is still progressing and that his present position offers valuable experience for his professional development.

"This is a challenge I needed as a coach," Zwane said, underlining the importance of the opportunity at AmaZulu.

His remarks leave the door open to future possibilities, but there has been no confirmation of an agreement with Bafana Bafana or an official decision to leave AmaZulu.

For now, Zwane appears focused on strengthening the team and continuing the work he started in Durban. Whether he eventually joins the national team under Mosimane remains uncertain, with AmaZulu supporters hoping he will remain at the club and help deliver on its ambitions.
