Malalah Accuses Baraza of Blocking CleoMalalahSuperCup From Mumias

Former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malalah has raised concerns over plans to host the 2026 edition of the CleoMalalahSuperCup in Mumias, claiming that efforts to secure a venue for the tournament were disrupted by restrictions on the use of key stadiums.

In a statement shared under the hashtags #BongaNaCleo and #CleoMalalahSuperCup2026, Malalah explained that Mumias had been selected to host this year's competition as part of the tournament's rotational arrangement. However, he said the plans encountered difficulties after organisers were informed that Baraza had blocked access to the venue.

According to Malalah, similar restrictions affected Bukhungu Stadium, raising questions about where the tournament could be staged. He argued that while decisions regarding the use of the facilities could be made by the relevant authorities, a clear position should be taken to avoid disadvantaging football enthusiasts in Mumias.

Malalah maintained that the people of Mumias deserved an opportunity to host the competition, which he described as one of the biggest football events in the country. His remarks have brought attention to the importance of access to sporting facilities and the role local venues play in promoting grassroots football.

The CleoMalalahSuperCup has been associated with community football, providing an opportunity for teams to compete while bringing supporters together. Hosting such a tournament can also create opportunities for local traders and other small businesses that benefit from increased activity during sporting events.

However, the venue dispute, as described by Malalah, presents a challenge for organisers seeking to implement the rotational hosting arrangement. The concerns he has raised centre on ensuring that Mumias is not excluded from hosting the competition because of restrictions affecting the use of the available facilities.

It remains important for the relevant parties to clarify the circumstances surrounding the reported restrictions and whether an agreement can be reached to facilitate the tournament. Malalah's statement did not provide a response from Baraza, leaving his claims awaiting clarification from the other side.
