KCB Target First Kenya Premier League Victory Against Mathare United

KCB will pursue their first victory of the 2026/27 FKF Premier League season when they host Mathare United at Police Sacco Stadium on Saturday, October 17, with both teams seeking to collect maximum points after their opening fixtures.

The Bankers began the campaign with a draw against Nairobi United and will be eager to convert their preparations into a winning performance against a Mathare side that has proved a competitive opponent in previous meetings.

KCB head coach Robert Matano, a three-time league-winning tactician, expects a difficult contest against the Slum Boys but remains confident his team can find a way through their opponents' defensive organisation.

Speaking ahead of the match, Matano described Mathare as a strong and well-organised side, adding that his players would work towards securing victory.

KCB can draw encouragement from their historical record against Mathare United.

The Bankers have won nine of the previous 17 meetings between the clubs, while Mathare have recorded three victories. Five matches have ended in draws.

However, last season's results suggest Saturday's encounter could be closely contested. Mathare claimed a 1-0 victory in the first leg before KCB responded with a 2-1 win in the return fixture.

Midfielder Brian Ouru, who is set to face his former employers, believes KCB have made progress during their preparations for the match.

Ouru identified finishing as one of the areas the team needed to address following their opening draw, expressing confidence that the Bankers could find the goals required to win.

He said the squad had worked on its shortcomings and was optimistic about securing all three points.

For KCB, a victory would provide an important early boost under Matano as they look to establish themselves among the competitive sides in the league.

Mathare United, meanwhile, will be determined to frustrate their hosts and improve on their opening performance.
