According to a report published by The Independent on Friday, October 30, 2026, manager Mikel Arteta confirmed that the Italian international Riccardo Calafiori had resumed training alongside Declan Rice and Christos Tzolis, giving the Gunners fresh hope ahead of their trip to Anfield.
The development comes after concerns emerged about Calafiori's fitness following Arsenal's recent Premier League victory over Everton. As reported by The Standard, the 24-year-old was initially left out of the starting lineup before coming on as a second-half substitute. However, he appeared uncomfortable towards the end of the match, raising questions about his physical condition.
His absence from Arsenal's Carabao Cup encounter against Fleetwood Town further increased concerns among supporters. The Italian defender had become an important part of Arteta's plans, and losing him ahead of such a demanding fixture would have been an unwanted setback for the North London side.
Speaking about the situation, Arteta previously described Calafiori's problem as a slight issue, explaining that the player had been cautious about his condition. However, the latest update suggests that the situation is improving.
According to The Independent, Arteta confirmed that Calafiori, Rice and Tzolis had all trained on Friday. The Arsenal manager added that they would participate in another training session on Saturday before a final decision was made about their availability.
Reuters also reported on Friday that Rice and Calafiori had returned to training, providing further confirmation of the positive development within the Arsenal camp.
For Calafiori, this update is particularly important because of the role he plays in Arteta's defensive setup. His ability to move forward, support attacking transitions and defend effectively makes him a valuable option on the left side of Arsenal's defence.
The upcoming meeting with Liverpool will provide a serious test for Arsenal. Playing at Anfield is never an easy assignment, and Arteta will need his most reliable players available if his team hopes to secure a positive result.
Nevertheless, returning to training does not automatically mean Calafiori will start the match. His fitness will need to be assessed carefully before the manager makes his final selection.
For now, Arsenal supporters have a genuine reason to feel encouraged. The defender's return is a positive development at an important stage of the campaign.
What do you think? Should Arteta start Calafiori against Liverpool if he is declared fully fit, or would it be better to introduce him gradually? Share your opinion in the comments.
