Barcelona midfielder Pedri has praised former teammate Ousmane Dembélé, describing the French winger as an extraordinary player whose talent was evident long before his success at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
Speaking about Dembélé's development, Pedri revealed that the French international regularly amazed his teammates during training sessions at Barcelona.
“Ous has always impressed me. He did things in training that were beyond what a normal player could do, and I always told him he had incredible qualities,” Pedri said.
The Spanish midfielder explained that although Dembélé showed flashes of brilliance during his time at Barcelona, inconsistency prevented him from reaching his full potential.
However, his move to PSG provided an opportunity to develop into a more complete and reliable player.
According to Pedri, Dembélé's improved consistency played an important role in his rise to becoming a Ballon d'Or winner.
“At PSG, he exploded and showed his true potential. At Barcelona, he was more inconsistent, but his consistency is what made him win the Ballon d’Or,” he added.
Dembélé joined PSG from Barcelona in 2023 after spending six seasons with the Spanish giants.
During his time at Barcelona, he demonstrated exceptional speed, dribbling ability and creativity, although injuries and inconsistent performances sometimes affected his progress.
His development at PSG has strengthened his reputation as one of the world's most dangerous attacking players.
Beyond football, Pedri also spoke warmly about their friendship, revealing that he enjoyed sharing the pitch with the French star.
“He’s a world-class player and a great friend. I really enjoyed playing with him,” Pedri said.
The comments highlight the strong relationship between the former teammates despite now representing different clubs.
Pedri's praise also shows how Dembélé's determination and improved performances have earned admiration from players who witnessed his talent firsthand.
