The Lions will host Eastern Storm at the Wanderers on Wednesday as the race for the YesPlay Pro20 Cup semi-finals begins.

Eight teams remain in contention, with the Titans, Boland, Cobras and Eastern Storm progressing from Pool A, and the Lions, Dolphins, Warriors and Garden Route Badgers advancing from Pool B.

Teams carry forward the points earned against the other three qualifiers from their original pool and will face only the four qualifying sides from the opposite pool.

The Lions enter the Super 8s after a strong opening campaign in which their only defeat came against the North West Dragons. Their match against the Warriors was abandoned.

Eastern Storm took a more dramatic route, securing their place with a crucial bonus-point victory over CSA High Performance on Sunday.

They join the Badgers as the only two Division 2 teams still in the competition.

The Oudtshoorn-based side will open their Super 8s campaign at home against the Titans on Thursday. The Titans won six of their seven pool matches to finish top of Pool A with 28 points.

The Badgers secured their passage after the Dragons’ match against Northern Cape Heat was abandoned in Potchefstroom. They will have a quick turnaround after facing the Titans, with Eastern Storm visiting on Saturday.

Also on Saturday, the Warriors will host the Cobras at St George’s Park in Gqeberha.

Both teams finished third in their respective pools, with the Warriors recording four wins and the Cobras six.

A further 12 Super 8s matches will be played from 1-11 November as the eight contenders chase four semi-final places.

There is also an increased incentive for spectators, with the prize for a clean one-handed catch rising to R3-million for the Super 8s stage.

Tickets are available through cricket.co.za and participating stadiums, with coverage on SuperSport and CSA’s YouTube channel.
