Phoenix Suns wing Dillon Brooks weighed in on the recent social media exchange between Kevin Durant and Suns governor Mat Ishbia.
"Thanks Matt for cleaning up that stench in the locker room before I came #culture," Brooks wrote in a Saturday post on his Instagram story.
Earlier on Saturday, Durant appeared to take issue with Ishbia describing the team's 2023 trade for the 16-time All-Star as part of a failed strategy of throwing "money at the problem."
It led to a back-and-forth between the two on social media.
Durant was with Phoenix for just over two seasons from 2023-25 until he was traded to the Houston Rockets in exchange for a package that included Brooks.
Ishbia previously discussed the lesson that he learned from initially acquiring Durant during an appearance on CBNC Sport.
"There was not a defined culture and North Star where we were going, and therefore bringing in super talented players like Kevin Durant doesn't necessarily lead to championships," Ishbia said. "You've got to find guys and people that are aligned with the vision of where we're going, the work ethic, the attitude, the care factor around winning, the grind every single day."
"We have to define what we're about in Phoenix, and stick with it, and believe in our vision and our path," he added. "And I didn't do that at the beginning. I just kind of threw money at the problem."
The Suns made an NBA Finals appearance in 2021 and finished with a 64-18 record the following year, eventually falling in the second round of the playoffs.
During the 2022-23 season, they sat at 30-26 before trading for Durant in a blockbuster swap with the Brooklyn Nets.
The Suns would go on to make the playoffs in two of their three seasons with Durant, but never advanced beyond the second round.
Expectations were low for Phoenix heading into its 2025-26 campaign following Durant's departure, but the team posted a 45-37 record before falling in the first round of the playoffs.
Brooks was a key piece of the Suns' rotation last season, averaging a career-high 20.2 points to go along with 3.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.
