The crisis in Nigerian football may be far from over as 16 state Football Association chairmen have taken world football governing body FIFA to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) over plans to set up a Normalisation Committee.
FIFA is expected to name a Normalisation Committee following its recent visit to Nigeria for a proper assessment of the situation after the mass resignation of the Ibrahim Gusau-led Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
The FA Chairmen had not hidden their opposition to the proposed Normalisation Committee and told FIFA their position on the matter during the visit.
The state FAs had reportedly proposed to FIFA during the visit that a caretaker committee should be established and headed mainly by their representatives after the resignation of the entire NFF executive committee.
However, it appeared the world of football is now set to name a Normalisation Committee instead in accordance with its rules, but the chairmen are now ready for a headon collision with FIFA.
According to a report by SCORENigeria, the legal action is being led by the chairman of one of the South-West state FAs, who is said to have committed significant personal resources to the case.
