Two players with multiple PGA Tour victories under their belts made costly mistakes Friday at the VidantaWorld Mexico Open.
Playing the par-4 ninth hole, their last of the second round, Tom Kim and Brian Campbell accidentally hit each other’s golf ball in the front greenside bunker.
The two players each were assessed two-stroke penalties and forced to replay their bunker shots. Both got up and down for double bogey.
Kim and Campbell’s first 36 holes at Vidanta Vallarta have mirrored each other, with each posting rounds of 67-68 and entering the weekend at 7 under, four shots off the clubhouse lead shared by Matthieu Pavon, Adrien Dumont de Chassart and amateur Kihei Akina.
An unusual mixup in Mexico:

Campbell, who twice won last season, including this event when it was played in the spring, is making his first start since the Wyndham Championship in early August. He has not finished better than T-24 since his 2025 John Deere Classic win and has thus slipped to No. 197 in the world rankings. He also is slated to get married next week.
Kim, whose Genesis Scottish Open triumph this past summer marked his fourth career PGA Tour title, has had a much better year and currently sits No. 30 in the world.
