Injured Chukwueze set to miss crucial AFCON qualifiers
Samuel Chukwueze passes the ball with the outside of the foot during the Round of 16 match against Tunisia on Sunday

Nigeria international Samuel Chukwueze is expected to miss the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations AFCON 2027 qualifiers.

The AC Milan wingback is still nursing a hip injury and will likely not recover in time to feature for the Super Eagles in the must-win double header.

Chukwueze suffered the injury during his side’s 3-2 win over Atalanta, in a match he was substituted due to the complaint.

He was expected to recover within two weeks, but reports in Italian media says the explosive dribbling wizard is expected to spend more time on the sideline.

He is one of three AC Milan players expected to remain in the treatment room until after the international break.

This indicates Chukwueze is not expected to join up with his colleagues for the crucial matches against Tanzania in Uyo and Dar es Salaam.

Nigeria host Tanzania on November 13, and visit the AFCON 2027 co-hosts for matchday four.

Nigeria are second in Group L with three points from two matches, three points behind Guine-Bissau who shocked the continent with a 3-0 win over the Super Eagles.

Both countries vie for the solitary AFCON slot in Group L, and further drop of points could see Nigeria miss AFCON for the first time since similar failure in 2017.
