Nigerian singer Burna Boy presented the 2026 Socrates Award to Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka at the Ballon d’Or ceremony on Monday.

Before presenting the award, the singer spoke about his football academy in Nigeria, which he established to support the development of football in the country. He expressed hope that a Nigerian player would one day win an award at the prestigious ceremony.

Saka received the Socrates Award for his charitable work with BigShoe, an organisation that provides medical assistance to children in need, including life-changing surgeries.

Established in 2022 by France Football in partnership with Peace and Sport, the award recognises footballers who use their influence to support humanitarian causes and make a positive impact on society.

Previous recipients include Sadio Mané, Vinícius Júnior and Jenni Hermoso.
