Cléa Menier, a 17 year old amateur rugby player, has died after being hurt in an under 18 match in France.

She played in the back row for Union du Bassin Marmandais and was injured during their game against Agen Agglo Rugby on Saturday.

She was treated on the pitch and then taken to Pellegrin Hospital in Bordeaux, where she later died.

Neither her club nor the French Rugby Federation has said what kind of injury she suffered.

The club said it was deeply saddened and thanked the emergency workers who attended to her.

It also sent its condolences to her family, friends, teammates and coaches.

The federation said her death has affected the whole rugby community and that it will do everything it can to find out what happened.
