Jeremy Jacquet joined Dominik Szoboszlai and Victor Munoz as absentees in team training on Friday, with the latter pairing now needing to prove their fitness on Saturday.
Szoboszlai and Munoz remain doubts ahead of Arsenal’s visit on Sunday, and their absence as Liverpool worked outdoors at the AXA Training Centre on Friday was not a complete surprise.
Andoni Iraola explained they both “have a chance” to be involved in the matchday squad, but will now have to show they are fit for selection on the eve of the match after missing Friday’s session.
Neither were pictured on the outdoor pitches as the main squad were put through their paces, with the pair likely working indoors on tailored individual programmes.
Jacquet was also notably missing from the club’s coverage of the main session, but like Bradley Barcola last week, it is expected he was simply in another recovery session.
The Frenchman came off the bench to replace Virgil van Dijk in midweek and was spotted at the AXA on Friday morning, meaning there should not be a need to raise the alarm.
The summer signing has played the second-most minutes of any outfield player under Iraola so far (974), behind only Van Dijk (1,000), and it is only right to manage his workload.
Goalkeepers: Alisson, Mamardashvili, Woodman, Davies
Defenders: Van Dijk, Araujo, Gomez, Kerkez, Tsimikas, Chambers
Midfielders: Wirtz, Mac Allister, Gravenberch, Nyoni, Endo, McConnell
Forwards: Isak, Barcola, Gakpo, Ngumoha, Koumas, Chiesa
Jacquet will still be expected to line up against Arsenal, but Joe Gomez and Ronald Araujo offer depth if needed.
As for Liverpool’s other absentees, Jeremie Frimpong’s recovery continues, as it does for the long-term cohort of Conor Bradley, Giovanni Leoni and Hugo Ekitike.
Against Arsenal, Alisson, Milos Kerkez, Alexis Mac Allister, Florian Wirtz, Bradley Barcola and Alexander Isak are among those set to return to the starting lineup.
