THE Fiji Police Force avenged last year’s defeat to Wardens with a 29-8 victory in the Ratu Cakobau Bowl ANC Challenge at the Nasova Police Barrack grounds on Friday.
Captain of the Police Blue side James Brown said, the team made a strong start by following its game plan and putting into practice what they had worked on during training. “We started well. We played according to the game plan that we had trained for,” Brown said.
However, he said the players began to move away from their structure as the points accumulated, providing a valuable lesson for the team.
“But once the points started ticking off, I think the boys started going away from what we had trained for,” Brown said.
He identified discipline as an area requiring improvement after Police conceded too many penalties in the second half, allowing Wardens to score a try.
A yellow card also put pressure on the side.
“I think we need to work a bit more on our discipline as well,” he said.
Despite the setbacks, Brown praised his players for standing firm in defence.
Brown dedicated the victory to police officers serving throughout Fiji and the outer islands, as well as colleagues who were laid to rest this week.
According to Brown, these matches provided valuable lessons for the side as it continued preparations ahead of the Sukuna Bowl.
