UCL: Osimhen returns to Lille as winless Gala seek first points
Osimhen

Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen faces his former club tomorrow as both sides chase their first points of the 2026/27 Champions League phase.

Osimhen scored 18 goals in 38 games for Lille in 2019/20. Galatasaray need him to deliver  after winless in six league phase games (one draw, five defeats) lowing  a  3-1 defeat  at Sporting CP on Matchday 1 and 4-1 at home to Barcelona on Matchday 2, despite taking the lead against Barcelona.

Away from home, the Turkish champions’ record is poor. They have lost their last five Champions League away matches and won only one of their last 16 European away games, a 3-0 victory at Ajax in November 2025. They have not won in France in six visits, since a 1-0 win at Nantes in 2001/02.

Lille arrive in similar trouble. A 3-0 loss at Arsenal was their fourth straight European defeat, equalling a club record from 2012/13. They have lost their last three home European matches, including a 3-2 defeat by Real Betis on Matchday 1, and have not kept a clean sheet in ten Champions League games.

Meanwhile,  Lille’s last eight Champions League matches have produced 31 goals, and Galatasaray’s last six have produced 26. Lille have scored first in each of their last eight home Champions League games, while Galatasaray have seen a first-half goal in each of their last eight matches in the competition.

This is the first meeting between the clubs. Lille are unbeaten in six matches against Turkish opposition (two wins, four draws), most recently eliminating Fenerbahçe in the 2024/25 qualifying rounds.

Galatasaray, who reached the last 16 last season for the first time since 2013/14, have won only two of their last 11 matches against French clubs.
