NFF, NSC reportedly agree improved $75,000 monthly Chelle deal

Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle is reportedly keen to finalise negotiations over a proposed improved contract worth $75,000 per month before Nigeria’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header against Tanzania in November.

According to a report by BSN Sports published on October 13, the Franco-Malian tactician is frustrated by delays in formalising the agreement, despite an alleged understanding with Nigerian football authorities.

Nigeria are scheduled to host Tanzania in Uyo on November 11 before travelling for the return fixture four days later. The two matches could prove crucial to the Super Eagles’ efforts to strengthen their position in the AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign.

The reported contract delay has been linked to the resignation of the Nigeria Football Federation executive committee in September, which allegedly disrupted the process of concluding negotiations.

However, the report indicates that the NFF and the National Sports Commission have since held discussions and agreed on an improved financial package for the former Mali national team coach. The proposed terms have not yet been formally signed, according to the report.

Chelle is reportedly earning $50,000 monthly under his existing arrangement, meaning the proposed $75,000 package would represent a $25,000 increase in his monthly remuneration.

The report, however, contains an inconsistency concerning the expiration of his current contract, stating that it is due to expire in January 2026 despite the negotiations taking place in October 2026. The contractual timeline requires clarification.

The uncertainty comes as Nigeria prepare for a demanding period in their AFCON qualifying campaign, with the Tanzania fixtures offering an opportunity to improve their position and restore confidence following recent disappointment.

Resolving the contract issue before the November matches could provide greater clarity over Chelle’s future and allow attention to focus on preparations for the crucial encounters.

Neither the reported monthly figure nor the proposed agreement should be treated as final until the relevant football authorities formally confirm and sign the contract.

For now, the negotiations remain a developing issue as the Super Eagles approach a decisive stage in their bid to qualify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
