London City Lionesses kept up their impressive start to the Women's Super League season with a victory at home to Everton.
The Toffees started brightly but rapidly fell short of the levels required as their defence – which had only conceded four times in the league before Sunday's match – failed to keep up with London City's pressure.
London City spent big in the summer as they look to upset the WSL's established order, bringing in two-time Ballon d'Or winner Alexia Putellas among other big names.
While Putellas was on the bench until the 63rd minute, it was not an issue as the rest of their attacking line proved to be energetic, creative and too much for Everton to handle.
Delphine Cascarino got the first of the afternoon, combining tidily with Danielle van de Donk to whip a lovely finish into the far corner after the Netherlands international backheeled the ball into her path.
Freya Godfrey, who made her England debut in the Lionesses' 5-0 triumph over Greece on Tuesday, soon added a second when she curled one in from the edge of the area after Everton were dispossessed in the middle of the park.
Everton's Hannah Cain got one back in the second half when she nodded in a Holly McNamara cross and sparked an end-to-end late stage of the game in which London City's Kadidiatou Diani had a goal ruled out for offside.
The result leaves London City sitting third in the table, three points behind leaders Manchester City. Everton are sixth.
