Liberia have selected Niger Tornadoes goalkeeper Derrick Daddy Julu for the first time ahead of their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations double-header against Cape Verde.
Julu has been rewarded for a strong run of form in goal for the Nigeria Premier Football League club, recording three clean sheets in four appearances during November.
The 2027 AFCON qualifying fixtures will see Liberia travel to Praia to play Cape Verde on Friday, November 13, 2026. The Lone Star will then host the island nation in Monrovia four days later for the return match.
Julu’s first international invitation comes at a critical stage for Liberia, who are seeking to recover from a difficult start to their qualifying campaign.
The West African side have lost both of their opening matches and currently have no points after two games.
Their campaign began with a 3-1 defeat away to Rwanda. Liberia then suffered a narrow 1-0 loss at home to Mali in their next fixture.
Those results have left the Lone Star under pressure to revive their hopes of qualifying, with the two matches against Cape Verde offering an opportunity to make up ground.
Julu’s recent performances for Niger Tornadoes have earned him a place in the squad for the double-header. His three clean sheets in four appearances this month were enough to secure his maiden call-up to the Liberia national team.
The goalkeeper will now be involved as Liberia prepare for successive meetings with Cape Verde, beginning with the Matchday Three fixture in Praia before the return game in Monrovia.
