Despite his soft spot for Tottenham Hotspur, Spurs target Alex Scott is looking increasingly likely to end up joining the Lilywhites’ rivals.
Spurs made a couple of big additions to their midfield in the summer, paying a combined £185m for Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes.
After a difficult start to life at N17, the Italian and the Portuguese stars are coming into their own, and they delivered a statement performance as a pair at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
It has been suggested by some outlets that Spurs could also look to add Scott to their expensive midfield, with the 23-year-old having developed into one of the most talented number eights in the Premier League over the last 12 months.
However, it is also clear that the Bournemouth man is of interest to several top Premier League sides, thus making the Lilywhites’ pursuit increasingly harder.
Scott has admitted that he is a big Spurs fan, and the North Londoners may have hoped that his soft spot for the club could give them an advantage in the transfer race.
However, journalist Ben Jacobs has now revealed that Chelsea are ‘increasingly confident’ of winning the race for the England international, having identified him as their top target to replace Enzo Fernandez.
The journalist added that the midfielder, who is valued at over £100m by the Cherries, is also on the radar of Liverpool, although the Reds are showing less urgency to sign him than the Blues ahead of January.
Jacobs wrote on X: “Chelsea increasingly confident of signing Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott in January. Scott is Chelsea’s top target after Enzo Fernandez’s left for Manchester City on deadline day over the summer.
“Bournemouth want £100m+ and Xabi Alonso’s side are already in fresh talks, having made multiple bids over the summer. Liverpool also hold an interest in Scott, but have less urgency to add a midfielder in January. Monaco’s Lamine Camara, who Chelsea failed to sign on deadline day, and Roma’s Manu Kone are two other targets.”

Tottenham already have a very talented young midfielder in Lucas Bergvall, who only signed a new contract in the summer.
Between Bergvall, Tonali, Fernandes, Rodrigo Bentancur and Archie Gray, Spurs have serious options for the two central midfield roles, and that is not an area that they are likely to prioritise strengthening in the upcoming transfer window.
According to various reports, Tottenham have compiled a short list of number nines ahead of the January window, having prioritised adding a goalscorer to their squad in the winter.
