Hearts of Oak finally gets two consecutive wins after three winless run

Hearts of Oak continued their recovery in the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Vision FC at the Nii Adjei Kraku Complex in Tema on Saturday, thanks to a late winner from substitute Kwesi Asmah.

The Phobians struggled to break down their opponents for much of the encounter but found the decisive goal in the 86th minute when the 23-year-old attacker capitalised on a defensive mistake to secure all three points.

Asmah, who came on as a substitute, proved to be the difference between the two sides in a closely contested Week Seven fixture that offered limited clear-cut scoring opportunities.

The winning goal came after a poor clearance from the Vision FC defence fell kindly to the Hearts forward inside the penalty area. Asmah reacted quickly, created the opportunity to shoot and fired a left-footed effort into the net to send the visitors into celebration.

The late breakthrough rewarded Hearts of Oak for their persistence in a match where they had struggled to turn possession into meaningful attacking opportunities.

The victory marked Hearts’ second consecutive league win, following their narrow triumph over Port City in their previous outing. The latest result represents another positive step for the Accra-based club as they attempt to recover from an inconsistent start to the season.

The encounter began with both teams seeking to establish control, but neither side managed to create a clear advantage during the early stages. Much of the action took place in midfield, where the teams battled for possession and attempted to find openings in their opponents’ defensive structures.

Hearts enjoyed slightly more possession as they tried to dictate the tempo, but Vision FC proved difficult to break down and created more attempts on goal.

The hosts showed attacking intent and looked capable of troubling the Hearts defence, although their efforts lacked the finishing touch needed to produce a goal.

Hearts goalkeeper Benjamin Asare played an important role in keeping the Phobians in the contest during the second half. He produced an excellent save to deny Vision FC an opening goal, preserving the scoreline and giving his teammates the opportunity to search for a late winner.

As the match progressed, the possibility of a goalless draw appeared increasingly likely, with both sides finding it difficult to convert their attacking moves into decisive chances.

However, Hearts maintained their determination and were eventually rewarded four minutes before the end of regulation time when Asmah made the most of the defensive error to settle the contest.

For Vision FC, the late goal was a disappointing conclusion to a competitive performance. The hosts had created more attempts but were unable to find a way past Asare, while their defensive lapse ultimately proved costly.

The defeat leaves Vision FC with more work to do as they prepare for their next league assignment against Dreams FC. They will need to improve their finishing and maintain concentration at the back if they are to turn promising performances into positive results.

Hearts of Oak, meanwhile, will take considerable encouragement from the victory, particularly their ability to remain patient and secure maximum points despite struggling to dominate the contest.

The result moves the Phobians level on points with league leaders Medeama, who are scheduled to face Samartex on Sunday. Hearts are assured of finishing the weekend in second place, regardless of the outcome of that fixture.

The Accra giants will now turn their attention to their next home match against Basake Holy Stars, where they will aim to extend their winning run and strengthen their position in the league standings.

Asmah’s decisive contribution could also boost his chances of earning more playing opportunities as the campaign progresses. His ability to make an immediate impact after coming off the bench demonstrated the importance of squad depth in a competitive league season.

With consecutive victories now secured, Hearts of Oak will hope to build momentum, improve their overall performance and maintain their challenge near the top of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League table.
