Osimhen scores against former club as Chukwueze and Boniface suffer European setbacks

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen scored for Galatasaray in their 4-2 victory over his former club Lille, while fellow Nigeria internationals Samuel Chukwueze and Victor Boniface face uncertainty over their involvement in upcoming European fixtures.

Osimhen’s goal on Wednesday highlighted his importance to the Turkish champions as they continued their European campaign. The forward, who previously played for Lille, returned to haunt the French side as Galatasaray secured a convincing win.

The result provided a memorable moment for Osimhen, who helped his current club claim victory against one of his former employers.

Chukwueze misses Bournemouth fixture

Chukwueze will not be available for AC Milan’s European fixture against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Thursday after suffering a problem with his left hip.

According to reports from Milan News, the 26-year-old missed Milan’s final training session at Milanello. He is due to undergo a specialist examination to determine the extent of the injury.

The winger is reported to have developed the issue after Milan’s 3-2 Serie A win over Atalanta on October 18. The club has not provided a date for his return.

Chukwueze’s absence leaves AC Milan with one fewer attacking option as the club manages several fitness concerns. His unavailability comes before a European match in which the Italian side will be without the Nigeria international.

Boniface omitted from Leverkusen squad

Bayer Leverkusen have left Boniface out of their squad for Thursday’s Europa League trip to Greece to play OFI Crete.

According to PUNCHSportsExtra, Jonas Hofmann has been chosen to replace the injured Martin Terrier. Terrier is expected to remain out of action until December.

Boniface has found opportunities difficult to secure this season. The striker has made only one appearance, playing five minutes in Leverkusen’s opening-day defeat by SV Elversberg.

The 25-year-old has not played since that match, while competition for places in the attacking positions has further restricted his chances of returning to the team.

His exclusion from the Europa League squad adds to a challenging period for the forward as he attempts to re-establish himself in Leverkusen’s plans.

Different fortunes for Nigeria internationals

Osimhen’s decisive contribution against Lille contrasts with the situations facing Chukwueze and Boniface, who are both set to miss their clubs’ respective European fixtures.

The three Nigeria internationals are therefore experiencing contrasting moments at club level. Osimhen is continuing to influence Galatasaray’s European campaign, while Chukwueze must wait for further assessment of his injury and Boniface works to regain a regular place in Bayer Leverkusen’s squad.
