Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando Da Cruz is facing growing pressure after last weekend’s 1-0 defeat to Red Arrows in the CAF Confederation Cup first leg.

The result marked four games without a win in the Betway Premiership for the Frenchman, although he remains unbeaten.

KENNY NIEMACH CALLS FOR FERNANDO DA CRUZ’S SACKING

The former Kaizer Chiefs striker says it is unthinkable for the club to endure another trophyless season. Amakhosi’s last piece of silverware came in 2024/25 with the Nedbank Cup title, a first in 10 seasons.

“When this man signed the contract, he had a mandate. He has obviously not lived up to that mandate,” Niemach told KickOff. “Five draws in eight league matches? If those expectations are not met, we have to appoint the right coach as soon as possible,” he added.

Niemach was equally blunt when discussing Da Cruz’s future, questioning the coach’s tactical approach and the team’s defensive performances.

“He must go; he has not delivered. He is playing defensive football, but the team is still conceding goals,” Niemach said.

The former Kaizer Chiefs striker also questioned whether Da Cruz understood the strengths and characteristics of the players at his disposal. “That means he does not understand the characteristics of his players,” he added.

KAIZER CHIEFS CAREER

Niemach became a Glamour Boy in August 200, making an instant impact with a winning goal against Orlando Pirates on his debut. Fondly known as “King Kenny”, the striker became an important member of the famous “Operation Vat Alles” squad under coach Muhsin Ertugral. His physical presence and experience upfront complemented the team’s youthful midfield.

During his two-season spell, Niemach helped Kaizer Chiefs win five trophies, including the BP Top Eight, Coca-Cola Cup and African Cup Winners’ Cup as part of a historic cup treble. Although a foot injury sidelined him in late 2002, he remained a celebrated figure for his ability to deliver in crucial matches before moving abroad in 2004.
